Chicago State University Study Abroad to Nice (France)

Our French group for the Summer 2011 is composed of fantastic students who have studied French at different levels and are eager to embark on an intense language and cultural adventure!  Meet the "aventuriers":

Diamond Haywood (Elementary  Education/minor:  French)
President of Le Cercle Francophone (CSU French Club)
"Diamant" as she loves to be called is interested in French culture and education and will research causes  educational disparities in France.

Tarita Halloway (Biology/Pre-Med)
Tarita is also part of Le Cercle Francophone.  She would like to study medecine in the future and use her French language skills to obtain an internship in a French lab and conduct research in France.

Steven Campbell (Engineering)
Monsieur Steve will spend time in France sharpening his conversational skills.  He is particularly fascinated by France's advances in transportation and will look into Nice, a city which strikes a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

Samantha Norris (Psychology/minor:  French)
"Sam" as she likes to be called is interested in behavior and communication, in particular cross-cultural communication and perspectives of the "Other".  She is our "mediator" and serene "diplomat".  She plans on interviewing young French people about their perceptions of African Americans.

Mireya Gonzalez (Spanish/minor:  French)
Merit Award from the Department of FLL
"Mireille" is our linguist!  She has a passion for languages and studies several languages at CSU (including Chinese).  She is interested in minority languages in France such as Provencal & "Nissart" commonly spoken in the region of Nice.

Jacqueline Gladney (English/minor:  French)
She is the poet of the group.  Jacqueline loves everything French.  Literature is her passsion and she would like to follow the footsteps of African American writers and jazz musicians in France.  You will certainly find her writing in a cafe on the Promenades des Anglais ou la Vieille Ville (Old Town).

Kendall Daniels (Psychology/minor: French)
Kendall also studies psychology and will provide the group with meditation sessions to calm our nerves when we feel overwhelmed while in France!  She will be studying traditional industries such as wine making and perfume making in the South.

Jimena Torres (Biology/minor: French)
Jimena is our biologist. She plans on studying medecine in the future.  She received the Honors Award for French this year 2011 and will continue sharpening her language skills, while looking at herb, plant extracts, oils and spices of the region used for medicinal purposes.

Madame Norris (la "prof")
Madame is there to give guidance and support en France.....only for a few days!  "apres moi...le deluge!"
